Efforts to create a workplace environment that makes the most of diversity
BioMarin's mission is to develop innovative biopharmaceuticals for rare diseases and continue to provide patients with new treatment options.
In order to fulfill this mission, it is essential to foster a work environment in which human resources with various backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge can maximize their potential.
"Respect diversity"
It's easy to put into words, but is our workplace an environment where everyone can work comfortably at all times?
There are many cases in which it is difficult to objectively evaluate the actual situation, even if employees are becoming more aware of diversity and intend to realize such a working environment.
For the second year in a row, BioMarin received the highest score (100%) in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's (HRC * ) Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which evaluates corporate initiatives for LGBTQ+.
Introduced in 2002, CEI is a benchmark that indicates workplace equity for LGBTQ+ people, and evaluates target companies based on the following three items.
- Prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation/gender identity in employment policies
- Equitable support for LGBTQ+ in benefits
- Fostering a workplace culture that makes the most of diversity and initiatives to fulfill social responsibility
Continuing from last year, BioMarin was evaluated as meeting all criteria again this year.
We will continue to actively promote diversity management so that diverse human resources can play an active role and fulfill our mission as a leading company that develops and sells biopharmaceuticals for rare diseases.
* HRC is the largest human rights organization in the United States working for LGBT equality. By supporting all Americans and society, we strive to end discrimination against LGBT people and ensure basic fairness and equality in society.
